When it comes to personal audio, manufacturers create styles that are meant to accommodate the vast majority of people. Although many headphones and earphones offer enhanced comfort and/or interchangeable ear tips, very few are tailored to individuals. For those looking to get a perfect fit without a trip to an audiologist, Decibullz Wireless offers DIY custom-molded earpieces along with Bluetooth wireless technology.
Custom-molded earphones have been available for quite some time, but most of them require a professional to create a digital scan and/or mold of the ears first. Then you have to wait for the completion and shipping of the audio device, which can take up to two weeks, depending. Decibullz Wireless puts production in user's hands, allowing this custom fitting process to be done at home in under 10 minutes.
Attached to Decibullz's removable earpieces is a thermoplastic mold, which, when immersed in hot water, softens to the touch. Users then snap the tips onto the earphones, place them in the ears, and shape the material for an exact fit. Not only will the tips reportedly stay in place comfortably, they can provide enhanced noise isolation and up to 40 decibels of hearing protection. And unlike typical custom-molding processes that are a one-time affair, the Decibullz Easy Fit system is designed to allow users to re-heat and re-shape as desired.
But what makes Decibullz Wireless unique is the Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. So far, all other custom-molded earphones connect through a standard audio cable. Decibullz Wireless offers cordless freedom for up to five hours before the internal battery needs recharging. An in-line remote with microphone offers easy volume control and hands-free voice communication. These earphones are also designed to be sweatproof and water-resistant, for peole who like to listen to music while running or exercising.
Decibullz successfully funded its wired custom-molded earphones almost two years ago. Decibullz Wireless is the company's second product, which is currently funding on Kickstarter. So far the campaign has raised 94 percent of its US$50,000 goal in seven days, with another 37 days left to go. A pledge of $79 get you a Decibullz Wireless in one of seven mold colors.
If production goes according to schedule, backers can expect shipments of Decibullz Wireless to start sometime March, 2016.
