Hitachi's 10.8-Volt Lithium Ion Micro Driver Drill

March 31, 2008 - Hitachi has launched a 10.8-Volt Lithium Ion Micro Driver Drill. The DB10DL has 88 in/lbs of turning torque, and the 1.5Ah HXP battery can drive 130 3-inch screws into wood with one charge.

The drill is 40% smaller, 20% lighter, and has 80% more power in comparison to the CDC18K2-XE cordless drill – thanks mainly to the lithium ion battery. Lithium ion batteries are smaller and lighter than nickel-cadmium batteries, and don’t suffer from the memory effect, an inherent battery flaw that progressively limits the extent to which it can be charged. The battery has three times less self-discharge than normal batteries, and on-board electronics further prolong its life. A state of charge indicator allows you to check the level of the battery, and when it’s dry the smart charger can bring the power level to 80% in 90 minutes. The unique circuitry of the charger also prevents overheating and power loss.

The DB10DL micro driver drill features a 21+1 stage clutch for accuracy and control, a quick-change 1⁄4” hex chuck for fast and simple bit replacements, and a responsive variable speed trigger for intricate operations. Partially depressing the trigger also activates the LED, which serves to illuminate dim work areas before the drill is in motion. Unlike other drills in its class, the 6-inch, 1.8-pound drill can stand on its own when not in use, rather than being laid on its side.

A single sleeve all metal chuck provides easier and faster tightening and changing of accessories, and the electronic brake prevents over-tightening of screws. The drill features a two-speed metal gear for increased power and durability, and has a no-load speed of 0-350/0-1400 rpm.

The DB10DL is the first tool in the micro series, which will evolve further in spring this year. It comes complete with two 10.8-volt 1.5Ah lithium ion batteries, a Universal quick charger, a 1⁄4” hex driver bit and a 7-piece magnetic drive set- all contained in a durable carrying case.
