New manufacturer VUHL working on Mexican supercar
VŪHL, a new supercar manufacturer with roots in Mexico, is preparing its debut car for this July's Goodwood Festival of Speed. The company has teased the car, promising that it will be a lightweight supercar "endowed with exhilarating performance."
A decade or two ago, the birth of a new supercar maker was an exciting thing. During this time, greats like Koenigsegg and Shelby Supercars hit the market hard with some of the world's fastest road machines. Supercars were something special.
More recently, supercar manufacturers have been simply crawling out of the woodwork, and their debut, along with the very word "supercar," has just lost the cachet it had a generation ago. For every Zenvo ST1, there are multiple Renovatio T500s and Vygor Operas. Instead of bringing butterflies to our stomach, the words "new supercar manufacturer" now make us cringe in fear.
Hopefully, VŪHL will help restore our faith. Standing for "Vehicles of Ultra-lightweight and High performance – we guess they switched the "lightweight" and "high," the outfit teased the front-end of its supercar this week, introducing itself in the process.
The new car, called the 05, was born in the minds of brothers Iker and Guillermo Echeverria and their Mexico City-based design firm Etxe. The two brothers gained their love of fast cars from their father Guillermo Senior, who built and raced GT and formula race cars during a 30-year period. The brothers are backed by the Mexican government and private investors.
The brothers are holding the full details about the track-inspired supercar for July, but they have said that the 05 will have a worldly build. The car's handling was optimized in the U.K., its body is being built in Canada, and its chassis and final production are being handled by Mexico City's Adman Leku. In addition to its Mexico base, VŪHL has a European headquarters in Luxembourg.
“We intend VŪHL products to be renowned for their effective simplicity and aesthetics guided by a purity of function," promises Iker. "The 05 and its successors will also be notable for uncompromising build quality, rigorous attention to detail and a driving experience par excellence."
The Goodwood Festival of Speed runs July 11 through 14. VŪHL plans to release more details leading up to the event on its website.
