50 years ago as a Boy Scout, I learned to dig an 18" deep hole and place a pan in the bottom of the hole, then lay plastic bag over the hole and peg it down around the edges and during the day you can collect condensation in the pan for drinking or cooking water.

This would work to remove water from fog on the California Coast and Inland Valleys.

Are there perhaps special proteins is our sweat glands that have those 1.5nm spacing so as to increase vaporization of sweat from our pores?

It always pays to look closely at any experimental results which fail to meet your expectations--all the really interesting stuff is in the outlier data where things didn't work as expected.

We've been making a coating since 1995 that works similar to these nanorods, it's called No Sweat-FX. If they can make these nanrods into a fabric that works similar to our coating, it might be a good anti-condensation material.

May I have my Dune Stillsuit now?

If this will condense water even in extremely low humidity environments they may have just created the enabling material for the fictional vaporators in Star Wars.

I love it when we discover stuff completely by accident and I really love teams that will freely admit that it was discovered by accident. Great stuff!

It looks like this is a source of free air conditioning, which violates the second law of thermodynamics! This is true if both reservoirs are at the same temperature. If the enthalpy of the high humidity reservoir is lower, the reaction will proceed without additional energy.

How about removing high humidity in a home, the current dehumidifiers are expensive to run! But the article said nothing about actual collection of water be releasing it as vapor!
