So that must be the powertrain and frame for the new Roadster. But before that is done, they are dropping it into a Model S to have some beta testers make sure it kind of works.

Most folks don't realize that the tire requirements for hitting those incredible performance numbers aren't exactly cheap and don't go very far. I'm happy to get 800 miles out of the tires I use on a "high performance" street legal car.

Just what the world needs.

Toyota must be worried. Imagine a range of Teslas that take on the worlds bread and butter models combined with motor plans and warranties we are used to, This may become the new car for the people that Henry Ford created so long ago. Tesla shares going up.

Nooooooooooooo! I was very happy with my 5 year old Model S P85D, right up until 30 seconds ago :(

That range is starting to get useful. On a trip home in Australia recently in my BMW 520d we filled up in Coonabarabran NSW, drove home to Melbourne Vic (1000km) and the computer showed we still had 250km to empty. When an electric car can do that, and then refuel in a few minutes, they'll be worth buying.

1: In echo of others - Public roads are NOT public racetracks.

2: With that amount of electronics* The Law of Sod will always kick-in at 03.00 hrs on a Sunday morning in mid January<->March when you're in the middle of The Snake Pass (UK / US - take yer pick).

* All said above to 2, as long as they're not Land-Rover bits in there,
you might just be in with a chance on 'limp-home' mode
(That is, if you haven't pranged the thing - See 1 above).

All that power and speed plus a touch screen infotainment system at the hands of an average driver may be a dicey combination until the autonomous drive capability kicks in, but the auto drive won't let you near those speeds.

Congratulation!!! Elon Musk, his engineers, his people at Tesla and SpaceX are the best!!

These types of vehicles will no doubt appeal to many people however, they will not be 'car people'. I have nothing against these people but, they are not 'car people'. As indicated in this article the art of driving is becoming less and less important to some people, it will never become so with 'car people' who will forever cherish the sound of a internal combustion V-8 engine for as long as they're still around or the engines are still around. Sad story indeed!
