Not the first to do a camless engine. Have you heard of FreeValve? They actually have their engine in some Chinese cars already.

I always thought this would be done with solenoid controlled valves and direct fuel injection. Good luck with your project.

It opens up a whole new world for cheating on emissions tests !
Not they can run the vehicle at it's lowest emissions settings and then operate the car in it's highest (most HP) emissions.
VW might be interested.

Seems to me that FreeValve in Sweden might have something to say about this. I believe that they are at a more advanced stage. Their system also seems simpler and motlre compact.
Josh!
That is an amazing breakthrough. ICE may be on its way out, but as mentioned in the article: This tech could drastically improve hybrid / plug-in hybrid performance.

Play all sorts of tricks with EPA tests too. VW would use it to cheat again

Great stuff. Too bad we'll need to wait 10 years for all the bugs and reliability issues to be ironed out.

"Nobody's ever done variable valve timing on the exhausts" Who wrote this? Utter nonsense! Also there are many developers of direct digital valve control such as Freevalve and most automotive manufactures. This is not new or more advanced than anyone else and has been developed for decades.

If this is the first IVA design then what of the Koenigsegg free valve engine which doesn't even have camshafts and is fully electronic?

Interesting, but how about Freevalve from Koenigsegg? https://newatlas.com/qoros-qamfree-camless-engine/43045/
