C'mon mode 1 is for old people, you need to make the controls mode 2 ! I've been flying mode 2 for 17 years ! (majority does) :D
Excellent interview, It's great to hear the man himself talking detail about the machine !
Besides the speeder which is excellent, i think the blade runner was one of the best looking multirotor concepts ever created, hopefully you've not given up on that project either.

How about an airbag or airbags for the speeder instead of a parachute like Mars rovers.

Fantastic interview, Loz, once again: great job! Very true about the engine failure on a "spider-leg" layout - would flip ya right over in a heartbeat. I wonder if the centrally-clustered turbines are each angled outward a tad to give a broader thrust base or not. Would guess not, as this would contribute to increased moment in the event of engine failure...
But, Mayman as "Buck Rogers"? Naw, I'd put him as the Rocketeer! And what hero is Yves supposed to embody? Superman? (He's got the guts for it!) IMO, the ultimate machine would be the combo of these two: the Jetpack and the Jetwing! Putting these two together produces the ultimate in personal flying vehicles! VTOL featuring horizontal flight (or vice versa) is what to shoot for! I figure the military already has a brigade of these put together, armed to the teeth with lasers and stealth invisibility cloaking - or maybe James Bond's next nemesis?. (Should the noise issue ever be solved, we're all doomed! ☺)

This is such amazing tech. I'm going to go sign up to fly a jetpack. The only true barrier I see is noise.

Great interview Loz, and thanks to David Mayman for sharing his thoughts! I was also thinking that if you are in the “red zone” and descending too fast, that an automatically deployed set of airbags underneath the speeder could cushion the emergency landing.
@MzunguMkubwa - Regarding the noise issue… A New Atlas article from earlier this week, did show a metamaterial that could block sound without blocking exhaust vents: https://newatlas.com/acoustic-metamaterial-blocks-sound-not-air/58818/

Oooh, the price for a lesson doubled to $10k. That's a bit much just to try it. Half that probably goes towards insurance! I'm a decently well off early adopter but not that wealthy I guess!

Hard to believe? Why? Seems a hard frame would make controlling it far easier than hanging jets on soft, less predictable, human body parts. Cool stuff!

A great way to commit suicide...

@bwana4swahili
If you're an idiot, the rest of the normal people will find it a breeze to fly ;)

I'm about the right size for the 1/3 size prototype, and I've actually been in the backseat of a T-38 (and learned how to do a barrel roll which was REALLY FUN). Hint, hint...
