I think you're doing a bit of a disservice to gamers when you say that they've learned to ignore the story. Personally I loved the story line which was interwoven with Mass Effect (aside from the abysmal ending to 3) or the Half Life series, and it really makes a game more enjoyable when it weaves a good story along with great gameplay.
That's not to say that you aren't right about the quality of the story associated with many games, or the way that some developers bludgeon you with it ("Here, we have a fully developed world! Read the encyclopedia!")

I have mixed feelings with Destiny. Sometimes I love it. Sometimes I hate it. The one thing that's sure is that most of the gaming critics did not give this game a fair shake because they were rushing to get their reviews out.
There's a lot to like about the game, but it's going to be some time before Bungie can figure out how to make it as fun as it has the potential to be. It's clear to me that they are working hard on it, so I confidence that they'll be able to capitalize on the criticism and turn it into a really great game... in 6 months.

I have to agree with Ratzmandious on this one. There are quite a few games out there with excellent plots. Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite come to mind. When a game has a good plot, I take notice and it definitely have an improved opinion of the game as a result. A good plot makes a game all the more imersive, which is a virtue that devolopers like Bungie need to aquire again.

If anything I learned the hardway a story DOES matter. In fact it's more important than gameplay in my opinion. The depth of the universe in which the game is made is critical to it being addicting.
I like titanfall game style, FPS with Parkour AND Mechs is amazing. But it got boring becaue well... I don't feel identified with anything in the game.
Even though ME multiplayer wasn't that great, it was good because I felt connected to every race, The Geth whom Sheppard saved through my choices, The Krogans who now won't have to see their children dead.
The collecters who were free because I severed their connection to the reaper and now seek revenge.
A story allows you to connect to the characters you play, a background for you to have... So your opinion on the 3rd point is far from valid.

If you think Mass Effect's story was hard to follow, then you don't know how to pay attention.

Nothing wrong with the article, but it doesn't say "REVIEW" in the title, and I just don't want to encourage reviews on a non-review website. What news sites usually do is put ads and reviews and op-eds in their feed as if they're diversifying or something.

One thing i have noticed is how much Yahoo talks about this game. There have been a lot more successful games that don't get near the attention this game does. Does Yahoo own stock in Bungie?

Okay so I know this game doesn't have a story, but Halo or Mass effect? Those are some of the best stories of last-gen. To me, a story is a huge component of a game, if it has a shitty story I'm less likely to be interested in it for the long-run. It just adds depth to all of the characters, even the multiplayer parts. It adds reasoning to it. And then there's a lot to do? Depends on what you consider a lot. If you conisder repeating the same things you've been doing over and over again for maybe better gear, then yes. But overall, by level 20, you've done 90% of the content. I don't play this game anymore b/c Shadows of Mordor and this game was lacking. Sure I had some good moments with it and it's not a terrible game, but it's not nearly as fun as I was hoping it to be.

I guess there had be a review out there somewhere that liked it more then everyone else.

It's bizarre how so many people are wanting Destiny to have a storyline.
As if they need history in order to Role Play their character's choices they are making.. but even missing the point entirely that they have just woken up from death without any knowledge of the past...
... It's enough to drive you crazy.
