Let's face it, selfie sticks are kind of … dorky. They're also limited by the length of the stick. AbleTech's Evo GoCam takes a new approach to shooting selfies, however, with a silicone smartphone case that contains its own removable wireless camera.

Designed to fit recent-model iPhones and select popular Android phones, the case features a 6 mm-thick Wi-Fi-connected camera that sits inside when not in use, but that can be slid out and placed somewhere when it's time to take pictures. That camera shoots 5-megapixel stills and 1080p/30fps video which it records on an SD card, and transmits to the phone up to a distance of 150 ft (46 m).

Utilizing a custom app, users can see what the camera is seeing, then get it to record shots or video, share them on social media, or even stream them live.

The camera has a cleanable, reusable adhesive back panel, meaning that not only can it be propped up against things, but it can also be stuck to flat surfaces such as walls. Besides its use for taking selfies, it can also be utilized as an actioncam (a mount and an underwater housing are available), a dash cam, a baby monitor, or for various other applications.

If you're interested, the Evo GoCam is currently the subject of an Indiegogo campaign. A pledge of US$89 will get you one, when and if it reaches production. The planned retail price is $149.

It's demonstrated in the video below.
