May 12, 2007 If you’ve spent a lot of time at rock concerts, or been part of the motor racing fraternity, or clocked up half a century of living, chances are you’re a bit hard of hearing. It’s a modern phenomena that the baby boomers know only too well now they’re heading into senior citizenship. It afflicts you in so many ways – in conversation when ambient noise is greater than usual, and most annoyingly, when watching television. Of course you could turn the volume up extremely high, but family and friends may find sharing an evening in front of the television with you to be unbearable. The Clarity wireless TV amplification device has been created to solve this problem. The US$190 Clarity Professional C120 uses infrared technology to wirelessly transmit sound from a television, stereo or MP3 player to a lightweight amplified headset, enabling users to hear clearly and comfortably without disturbing others in the room.

“That 75% of people with a hearing loss, who find watching television difficult, often compensate by turning the television volume up to unsafe levels for those who want to share in the pastime,” explained Carsten Trads, president of Clarity. “The C120 will return the enjoyment factor to listening to music or watching television and make both activities comfortable for everyone.”

The C120 amplifies incoming sounds up to 50 decibels and uses patented Clarity Power technology to make sounds not only louder, but clearer and easier to understand. The C120 is also the only television listening product to offer telephone ring notification through the user’s headset. No longer will a hearing impaired individual miss an important call while watching television. It also can be used in movie theaters, public arenas, religious venues, museums and other venues that broadcast infrared signals for the hearing impaired.

Additional features include adjustable volume, tone and balance and two (2) rechargeable batteries, providing up to eight (8) hours total listening time.

Clarity is a division of Plantronics.
