IK Multimedia has added a new product to its iRig line at this year's IFA. The iRig Mic Field is a stereo microphone that attaches onto any Lightning-compatible iOS device, turning it into a portable stereo digital field recorder.

Capable of capturing stereo sound on the go at an impressive 24-bit 44.1/48 kHz sampling rate, the iRig Mic Field can be rotated 90 degrees once plugged in, which ensures that the user can still get an optimal stereo image while holding the iOS device in either portrait or landscape mode (most similar devices like the Mikey Digital require you to hold it in portrait mode).

The input level from the two onboard cardioid electret condenser microphones is controlled by thumbwheel, and a multicolor LED provides visual feedback of the audio input level. The iRig Mic Field also sports an audio-out jack for headphone monitoring.

The iRig Mic Field comes bundled with iRig's Recorder Free app and the company says that it will work with Core iOS audio and video apps like GarageBand, Voice Memo, Camera, and iMovie.

The iRig Mic Field is set for an October release worldwide, and will be priced at €79.99 in Europe and $99.99 in the US.
