December 10, 2008 Despite the name, many of us find laptops to be an uncomfortable proposition when the situation demands that we actually have to use them on our laps. Logitech's take on tackling this problem is the new Comfort Lapdesk, a portable pad designed to keep roaming computer users comfy, whether at home, in the office or on the road.

The desk features four-layers designed to shield the user from laptop heat. The bottom-layer’s fabric and an air-flow chamber between the lapdesk’s base and top combine to further minimize heat and an arched base makes contact with the legs in just four places, rather than the entire leg, thereby improving air flow.

The cushioned base provides a stable platform for laptop use and allows you to relax your legs instead of locking the knees together to support the computer. A non-slip glossy finish on the top of the lapdesk helps prevent the computer from sliding around, while a 12-degree angled riser positions the notebook to a height that supports neck and leg comfort (when used in a seated position) and improves posture.

The Lapdesk was developed in response to research conducted by Logitech that revealed nearly 60% of laptop users in the home use them on the couch so they can be with their families while working on the computer. Further research indicated 36% use a laptop on the bed and 16% use it while sitting or lying on the floor and almost half of those people reported concerns about laptop heat and posture. Some admitted to using a pillow or book to provide a barrier from the laptop heat, but those solutions often end up trapping heat and making it even hotter.

While it might not make it on many road trips due to the eternal question of "how do I fit all this stuff in my bag?", we can see the advantage of having one of these tucked down beside the coach. On one hand this laptop desk is just another thing to carry, but on the other hand it’s a great way to protect you from laptop heat and improve your posture.

The Logitech Comfort Lapdesk for Notebooks is expected to be available in Europe in January and in the US in February for around USD$39.99.

There are two main types of Lap Desks; portable and stationary. Stationary lap desks are bulky and normally padded for using for a long time in the office or at home.
A portable lap desk contains no slip surfaces and rubber bumpers to avoid slipping. To ensure easy mobility, this lap desk should be light in weight and thin. It should also enable ventilation beneath the notebook to facilitate breathing. - http://www.ilapdesk.com/best-large-lap-desks-for-powerfull-laptops/
