Have you ever wanted to take your luxury apartment on an off-roading holiday? It sounds like you need a new Mercedes-Benz Zetros, with a body from specialist manufacturer Hartmann Spezialkarosserien on top.

The monstrous mobile home is based on Mercedes' standard Zetros platform and takes advantage of permanent all-wheel drive with a two-stage transfer case and three differential locks to provide rugged, go anywhere capability. Mercedes isn't overstating the Zetros' off-road ability: it will ford rivers up to 1.19 meters (3.9 feet) deep, climb gradients of 80 percent and is capable of axle articulation of 2 x 500mm (19.7 inches).

Power comes from a 7.2-liter inline six-cylinder that makes 240 kW (326 hp), and is channeled through a six-speed automatic gearbox.

When the day is done, the mobile home switches from extreme performance to extreme luxury. The truck sports a 5.6 by 2.4 meter (18.4 by 7.9 feet) luxury apartment on its back. If that's not enough space for you the Zetros can activate its electrically operated, carbon fiber skinned extension.

The mobile home’s interior has been appointed with equipment from specialist Hünerkopf, and contains a kitchenette, bathroom (including shower), and double bed. Low power LED’s provide lighting for the interior, and can be dimmed to the owner’s preference – because nothing ruins an off-road trip like having the lights too bright. And while some people go adventuring to get away from the outside world, the Zetros will let you connect to the internet and watch TV through two separate LED screens, backed by Bose sound systems.

Despite its luxurious focus, the Zetros mobile home hasn’t forgotten its practical roots, either. The vehicle can carry 300 liters of water and 600 liters of diesel, and power is supplied by lithium-ion batteries, backed by a solar energy system. Failing these, the car also has a separate power generator onboard. It also has two independently-operated, diesel-powered hot water systems, so you’re never without a hot shower on the go.

The vehicle will make its premiere in a first configuration level at the end of month at Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. A fully completed version will then be shown at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover on the 25th of September.

I think that is really cool. It looks ready for the way-off road adventure or for emergency situations where being self sufficient is good.
