The hot dog-shaped Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is undoubtedly one of the most well-known promotional vehicles of all time. There's also a Mini-based WienerMini, along with an even smaller unmanned WienerRover – who knew? Now, in order to promote its new line of wieners, the company is introducing the WienerDrone.
Reportedly "designed for remote location delivery" (take that with a gram of sodium), the remotely-controlled quadcopter can carry a single hot dog in a cargo net in its undercarriage, then release it to drop down to a recipient.
Measuring 24 inches long by 15 inches wide (610 by 381 mm), it can reach a maximum altitude of 1,200 feet (366 m), ascending at a rate of 13 feet (4 m) per second. It has a flight time of 15 minutes when carrying a hot dog, or 20 minutes if "unladen."
Perhaps not surprisingly, this isn't the first food-delivering drone we've seen. Domino's is looking at using them to deliver pizzas, while both Darwin Aerospace and Google have used them to drop burritos.
