Initial details and renders recently emerged concerning Renzo Piano's North Beach, Miami condominium, Eighty Seven Park. Due for completion in 2018, the residential high-rise will comprise 70 luxury apartments, with the cheapest reportedly commanding a minimum of US$2 million.

Rising to a total height of 200 ft (60 m), Eighty Seven Park will be located on Miami Beach's northern city limits, a stone's throw from the Atlantic Ocean. According to Renzo Piano, the high-rise will appear to "levitate above the trees."

The glass and concrete building will feature a private park and garden. In addition, residents will enjoy access to the adjacent North Shore Open Space Park, a 35 acre (14 hectare) public park that will also be redeveloped as part of the project. Other slated amenities include two swimming pools (a third pool tops the building and is exclusive to the penthouse suite), and underground parking.

The 70 luxury apartments will range in size from 1,400 sq ft (130 sq m), up to 7,000 sq ft (650 sq m). Local newspaper Miami Herald prices the smallest units at a minimum of $2 million. Their interiors are shown decked out in luxury furniture, but all eyes are likely to be turned toward the generous balconies which will boast choice views of the ocean and surrounding city.

Renzo Piano is joined on the project by West 8, which is handling landscaping and Rena Dumas Architecture Intérieure, responsible for interior design. Eighty Seven Park is being developed by Terra Group and Bizzi & Partners.

Completely nuts unless they are planning a seal-level boat dock too and making the foundations right down to bed rock and all the lower floors waterproof ? Why does anybody still build anything in Miami ???
