But then, billions of people on this planet still believe in god…

Pointless fear. Once the mind is gone, fear goes with it.

I really think that a little more transparency in the introduction to the product would have reduced the concerns. Whenever things like this happen what else can you expect the population to conclude? The governing bodies have our best interests at heart and are 100% outside the realm of persuasion via large under the table financial donations?
The only way to keep the masses happy is to be transparent from birth of a new product and not have such a dark and jaded history. When that is not happening there is often a reason for it because life works on Cause = Effect and when we see an Effect.. there was always a cause and if that cause is not made public there is always a reason for it.

Aspartame is one of the nine servants of Beelzebub! Repent you worshipers of false sweetners!

I only know 1 thing about aspertame. Every time I have something that contains it, I get a splitting headache within the hour... I sure don't need research to form an opinion on it.

"Cannot prove a negative" is itself a negative statement. Steven Hales wrote an excellent paper about it, which is a basis for this article from psychology today.

I'm all for food safety, but people who promote conspiracy theories should be sued for defamation and compelled to provide evidence for their claims (or lack of), thereby revealing them as cranks.

Actually,I do not drink those soft drink at all. because it will make me fat and Someone said They may cause the Calcium disappearance, which is still in discussion. I will feel Bloating and it contains much sugar, which may stimulate the desire for more food.

I think the most compelling argument I have seen against diet sodas is that many studies have concluded that people drinking it either remain the same weight or even gain weight.
Despite lack of scientific proof diet soda contributes to calorie intake study after study has shown diet soda drinkers have gained weight. What's essentially left to understand is /why/ diet soda appears to make people fatter. Do they see it as a free pass and overeat to compensate? Does it make changes in the body we have yet to understand?
We don't know. The anecdotal evidence I see personally is all the fattest people I know drink diet sodas. Perhaps it's just a great example of correlation does not equal causation but for weight loss people generally recommend water rather than sodas with artificial sweeteners and the the healthiest examples of people I know generally forgo soda entirely. It's almost as though people already know something through anecdotal evidence science has yet to confirm.
I can't help but notice kids running around today are much fatter than they were even 15 years ago. When I was in high school none of the kids I knew drank diet soda and now it's common for overweight kids to be drinking it and what was "fat" then is closer to the new average.
Kids today spend way more time today learning about healthy eating habits and exercise in school when only a few years ago gym class was pass/fail and showing up was enough to pass.
Maybe it's just that kids now spend lots of time on video games and youtube but it could possibly be that all the recent changes to sugar substitutes that have risen to popularity over the last generation have unintended consequences we don't yet understand.

CC would not have pulled it without putting something else back in.
There is just too much money to be made in making people physically sick, incapacitated or otherwise mentally not well.
The only worry now is the replacement is not receiving a mention. Probably because it is GM sugar cane, and the goodies are built into the 'natural' sugar molecule.
