The Moza AirCross is Gudsen's latest hand-held steadicam gimbal – this time focused squarely on lightweight mirrorless cameras. Smaller and lighter than the Moza Air, it's also got a quick release plate, auto-tune setup and battery power for your camera to make life easier on set.

The GH5S is even more video focused than the GH5. Vastly improved low-light performance (thanks to a new dual-native ISO sensor) and slower slow-mo are great, but it's pricier than the GH5, it doesn't address autofocus issues, and it loses stills resolution and in-body image stabilization.

Drones may allow film makers to get great tracking shots, but there are many situations in which it's just too risky to fly them. It was with this in mind that Wiral LITE was created. It's a cable camera system designed to work with smartphones, actioncams and mirrorless cameras.

If you've ever used a wireless mic, then you'll know that it's much less of a hassle than using a hard-wired mic. If you're shooting with a smartphone, however, an adapter has to be installed between the receiver and the phone. Samson has addressed that issue, with its new Go Mic Mobile.

Cheap, lightweight and versatile, the Moza Air can carry and stabilize a full size DSLR with a lens, letting you shoot smooth, dynamic motion video while walking, running or hanging out of vehicles.

Thanks to new research from MIT and ETH Zurich, it may soon be possible for camera drones to autonomously follow along with an actor, keeping their face framed "just right" the whole time – while also avoiding hitting any obstacles.

The original DJI Ronin was a terrific tool that brought Steadicam-like stabilization to filmmakers without the six-figure price tag. The Ronin 2 is ready for the big time, with multiple mount options, hot-swappable batteries that can power the camera, and a whopping 30-lb (13.6 kg) load capacity.

People who own a GoPro Karma drone are already able to remove its camera and use it to shoot stabilized handheld footage. Owners of the similar DJI Mavic … well, they can't. PolarPro Filters is now offering what might be the next-best thing, however, in the form of the Katana DJI Mavic Tray.

The weird world under the waves is a perfect place for 360-degree video. Boxfish Research has unveiled a new underwater camera for filmmakers and researchers, designed to shoot in every direction in close to 5K resolution while also recording data on depth, water temperature and camera orientation.

Broadcast-quality video cameras may be a lot harder to lug around than camera-equipped smartphones, but they also pack more inertia, resulting in smoother handheld pans and tilts. Tiffen claims to have replicated that inertia for smartphone users, in its new Steadicam Volt motorized stabilizer.

Art has always been fundamentally intertwined with technology. Our new series, Art in the age of ones and zeros, examines the impact of digital technologies on art and looks at how artists are creating entirely new forms of artwork using these modern electronic tools.

Panasonic's GH-series cameras have always been terrific portable video machines, but the new GH5 takes things to a whole new level. 4K/60fps recording, 10-bit 4:2:2 colour, 180fps slow-mo at 1080p and a burst mode that takes up to 60 shots per second make this the new king of micro 4/3rds video.
