When KTM took its first stab at electric off-road bikes, it came up with what can be best described as expensive toys. With the second generation Freeride E-XC, the Austrian manufacturer adds 50 percent more battery juice for more practical range, and rounds it off with race-proven suspension.

KTM has unveiled a fuel injected two-stroke engine that is expected to give four-strokes a good run for their money. Available in 250 and 300 cc capacities, the new single-cylinder motor promises the best of both worlds, all the while satisfying the strictest emission standards.
-
Despite the ever-tightening noose designed to legally choke emissions, KTM goes against the Euro 4 flow by announcing a new two-stroke platform for its Enduro motorcycles. And it could well prove to be a game changer.

Another surprise from KTM at this year's EICMA expo in Milan: "The Prototype." Featuring an all-new 790cc parallel twin, the compact, lightweight Duke 790 seems set to fill the space between the single cylinder Duke 690 and the fire-breathing 1290 Super Duke R.
-
KTM's 1290 Super Duke R was the biggest, baddest super-naked bruiser on the planet up until a few minutes ago, when the Austrians pulled the covers off a new version. And by god, I know it's an early call but it looks like the bike of the century.

Francisco López, KTM’s Chilean rally raid rider, climbed the world’s highest active volcano on the saddle of an electric Freeride E-XC. Reaching up to 6,080 m above sea level constitutes a new Guinness World Record altitude for electric powered motorcycles.

There have been a number of versions of KTM's X-Bow since the first in 2008, including the 2013 GT and the current GT4. A newly-announced Black Edition, though, is surely the most seductive and exclusive of them all, forged, as it is, entirely in black carbon fiber and with only five being produced.
-
In 2014 KTM stunned the world (and us) with the fearsome 1290 Super Duke R. For 2016 the Austrian company has announced a Gran Turismo version of the twin-cylinder streetfighter, enhancing the Super Duke with practical amenities and an impressive collection of electronic safety features.
-
KTM and Piaggio have emerged as the prime movers in an EU project that aims to make efficient three- and four-wheel tilting narrow track vehicles a common sight on European roads.

Motorcycles can be a fun, cheap and easy way to get around. They can also be bowel-loosening widowmakers with absurd levels of performance for family-car dollars. The KTM 1290 Super Duke R, which Loz Blain rode for two weeks, falls into the second category.
-
The third model of the Freeride E family is KTM’s first street-legal electric bike. After the Motocross and Enduro versions, the Supermoto is a battery-powered playbike that can also double as one of the coolest commuters out there.
-
Frankly, the marketing build-up and spec sheet of "The Beast" had Loz terrified – but a funny thing happened when he twisted the throttle on the 1290 R. It didn't kill him. In fact it turned out to be a surprisingly approachable bike for all conditions.
