It's just another SUV. The Vanagon is much closer to the microbus of old.

VW has redone the 2004 Scion XA. Nice job, that car sold very well, wait a second.....

After waiting for over 5 years for the Bulli, then the rear engined UP van VW comes up with an updated version of the Soul. I guess that's what happens when you hire computer techies to design your vehicles instead of relying on what your customers actually want. Since Mini-vans are verboten to the majority of younger buyers adding a pile of unnecessary electronic crap is not likely to change that. Another Strike for VW - shame!

Cool tech aside, how is this a (any) bus?
It is no larger than Scion xB, in fact looks very much like it..

Cool tech aside, why call it "bus" anything? It is basically a Scion xB..

The Modular Electric Platform (MEP) skateboard chassis is the interesting part ... VW could use the same skateboard chassis for all their vehicles including the Van, SUV, CUV, Sedan, Roadster or even a truck.

As a total Type 2 freak, this pains me to say so, but perhaps the entire concept answers a question that no one asked? The EV tech sounds promising, but other makes will have this range and charge time by 2020 as well. The onboard "smart" connectivity options are more gimmicks than true convenience features at this point, that key on "Gen-Xers" fascination with new-tech to impress their geek friends with remote home control and drone sync. These are not engineering breakthroughs in the sense of even the original 1950's bus, that revolutionized the industry. Westfalia campers from the 70s are more ingeniously engineered and transformable than this mediocre attempt to wow the market. I want a TDI dirty-diesel camper with 40 mpg and a manual trans in my garage!

it looks very modern and has lots of fancy features, but from what I can see it does not have the practicality of the old model, in the 1970 we had one and travelled 700k to do three months shopping, but this could not be done in this model. Like most modern thins very fancy and appeals to the young but is not as practical as the older version.

Wow! All the typical bitching from the peanut gallery. I think it looks damn good for a modern interpretation of a microbus/minivan. Sporty stance, great outward vision, and clean lines. If you'd all check the dimensions, you'd see it's not in the same league as a Soul, Scion, or any other pigmyUV. As for practicality, they can make it into anything they want with the "skateboard" platform; a camper van, delivery van, or people hauler.

I think it looks good.
