Yoggie Pico: corporate-level security away from the corporate networkView gallery - 8 images
May 31, 2007 Here's an interesting concept: Yoggie's new Pico is a mini Linux computer on a tiny USB dongle that plugs into a laptop and acts as a physical separation between the host PC and the internet. All Internet traffic is cleaned via 13 inbuilt security applications before it even makes it to the host PC's operating system. The net effect is that a portable computer can have the same level of internet security as it has when plugged into the corporate network. Because there's now a standalone processor handling all security applications, the Yoggie actually enhances the performance of the host PC too.
Following the successful debut of Yoggie's first generation Gatekeeper(tm) series, which has taken out several industry awards, Yoggie's new technology, the Yoggie Pico(tm), offers all laptop and PC users full corporate level Internet protection from all types of hacking, virus, malware, worms and other attacks - both current and future - while boosting computer performance by saving CPU, memory and disk space.
No bigger than your thumb, the new Yoggie Pico(tm) manages the 13 security applications, including updates. It is also the most powerful computer to be placed into a USB stick and is an Intel Pentium level 520 MHz platform. Through the combination of offloading security onto a piece of dedicated hardware and its patent pending technologies the Yoggie Pico(tm) is not exposed to PC-related vulnerabilities as its software only counterparts are. The security applications contained on the Yoggie Pico(tm) are:
- Anti Virus - Anti Spam - Anti Phishing - Anti Spyware - Intrusion Detection (IDS) - Intrusion Prevention (IPS) - Web and Mail Proxies - Firewall (stateful inspection) - Web Filtering - Parental Content Control - Adaptive Security Policy(tm) - Multi-Layer Security Agent(tm) - Layer-8 Security Engine (tm) - VPN Client (PRO model only) - VPN (available in the Pro model)
The Yoggie Pico(tm) is available in two formats: The Yoggie Pico Personal(tm) for the consumer market and the Yoggie Pico Pro(tm) for the enterprise market. Both units hold a 520 MHz CPU and a 128MB memory.
The Yoggie Pico Personal(tm) offers 13 layers of security applications while the Yoggie Pico Pro(tm) is part of a two component enterprise solution that offers an additional layer in terms of a VPN Client and also an interface to the Yoggie Management Server (YMS).
The Yoggie Pico Pro(tm) allows IT managers to control their travelling workforces by enforcing policy using the Yoggie Management Server. The YMS can manage up to 500 Yoggie units when they leave the safe corporate environment.
The Yoggie Pico Personal(tm) retails US$179 with licensing from year two at US$30. The Yoggie Pico Pro(tm) retails at US$199, with licensing from year 2 is US$40.
The units will be available from the Yoggie website and will also be available from PC retail units around Europe and the US from September 2007. Shipping is directly from the UK and US.
