Just a few weeks after unveiling the monstrous Aventum II boutique gaming PC, Digital Storm is getting ready to break out a new Haswell-packing portable powerhouse called Veloce. The Windows 8 notebook has a Full HD display, hybrid storage and discrete Nvidia graphics.
The new Veloce features a 13.3-inch, 1920 x 1080 LED-backlit display and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M GPU with 2 GB of dedicated video memory. Throbbing away under the hood is a Core i7 4880MQ quad-core processor that can be ramped up to an impressive 3.7 GHz. It's supported by 8 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM and 750 GB of hybrid storage, with the hard disk spinning at 7,200 RPM and an 8 GB SSD (though there is room in the chassis for more than one drive).
To the right, there are three USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet and both HDMI 1.4 and VGA-out. Squeezed alongside the venting on the left are audio in and out jacks and a USB 2.0 port. Wireless connectivity comes in the shape of a combined Killer Wireless-N and Bluetooth 4.0 module.
The spec sheet also makes mention of a DVD optical drive, but the images don't show one to the side as you would expect, so this may in fact be an option. Completing the known specs is a backlit chiclet-style keyboard for after-hours gaming.
Tipping the scales at 4.6 lb (2.1 kg), and measuring 1.26 in (32 mm) thick, it's noticeably heavier and chunkier than the 14-inch Blade from Razer, but the Veloce isn't let down by a somewhat underwhelming 1600 x 900 resolution screen, has a more powerful CPU, and also costs a few hundred bucks less.
The Veloce will be available from July 17 for US$1,535.
