Lenovo has announced that its 8-inch ThinkPad business tablet launched back in January is about to get a bigger brother. The new ThinkPad 10 multimode slate runs Win8.1 (with 64-bit support), is powered by an Atom quad-core processor, and is said to offer users a full PC experience.

The new ThinkPad 10 boasts a stylish aluminum finish and a 10-inch Full HD IPS display at 1920 x 1200 resolution that's topped by scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass and supports up to 10 simultaneous touch points. It's powered by an Intel Atom Z3795 quad-core processor with integrated Intel HD graphics, which is supported by up to 4 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and either 64 or 128 GB of eMMC solid state storage.

To truly get the promised computer-like productivity experience, though, you'll likely need to spend some extra cash on the optional multimode accessories, which include an Ultrabook Keyboard, Quickshot folio cover and Tablet Dock with USB 3.0 ports (each with a slot for the supplied digitizer pen).

Lenovo says that its new LTE-capable business tablet will last up to 10 hours on a single charge, and IT managers have been treated to VPN access control, application deployment management and will even be given the power to prevent users from installing "prohibited" apps.

Elsewhere there's 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 and micro-HDMI connectivity, the promise of high definition audio, a 2 megapixel webcam out front for 1080p video chats, and an 8 MP AF camera at the back, with flash. Wi-Fi and WWAN versions have 256.5 x 177 x 8.95 mm (10 x 7 x 0.35 in) dimensions, while a unit with included smart card reader is a little chunkier at 16.95 mm (0.67 in) thick.

Prices start at US$599, with a June availability window.

The company has also unveiled a redesigned ThinkStation P300 business workstation, which comes in tower or small form factor desktop versions. Configurations are available with Intel Core or Xeon processor options, Nvidia Quadro graphics, up to 32 GB of RAM, and HDD, SSD or hybrid storage. There's a choice of Windows 7 or 8.1, the ability to customize I/O ports courtesy of the Flex module and, though an SD card reader comes as standard, users can bump this up to a 29-in-1 media reader if desired.

Connectivity comes in the shape of six USB 3.0 ports, VGA and DisplayPort (HDMI is not mentioned), and optional dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The P300 has a starting price of $729, and is also earmarked for June release.
