IK Multimedia has updated its all-in-one audio and MIDI interface from 2013, giving the iRig Pro I/O volume control for headphone monitoring, MIDI thru for flexible routing options and the ability to charge connected devices.

The iRig Pro I/O is designed to act as a bridge between a smartphone or tablet (or PC/Mac) running music creation software and electric guitars and basses, studio and vocal microphones, keyboards, and MIDI hardware.

At 1.69 x 5 x 1.46 in (43 x 127 x 37 mm) it's a little bigger than its predecessor, and ditches the 9 V brick battery in favor of two AA-sized batteries so that the unit doesn't leech power from the mobile device it's cabled up to. It can also be powered by a DC adapter when a wall outlet is available, or over USB when connected to a PC or Mac. The iRig Pro I/O is capable of charging mobile devices, too, though only when it's connected to a DC power supply.

At the bottom of the interface is a combo XLR/instrument input, which is suitable for both active and passive guitar pickups, and 48 V phantom power is available for active condenser studio microphones. There's a MIDI input for plugging in controllers and hardware synths, as well as a new output port to chain MIDI devices.

Users can look forward to 24-bit analog-to-digital and 24-bit digital-to-analog conversion at 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz sampling rates, a Class-A preamp with input gain control and LED level indicator, and a headphone output with level control for monitoring or onward connection to powered speakers.

The new iRig comes supplied with USB and Lightning cables, together with MIDI cables, and full versions of IK music software worth more than US$550, including AmpliTube and SampleTank.

The iRig Pro I/O is available now for $149.99. Have a look at the video below for more on this pocket-friendly interface.
