Lexus has unveiled its new LF-FC concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. The concept provides an indication of the design and technology the company intend to include in its future flagship sedan, including a new styling theme, a luxurious interior and innovative control and driving tech.
Measuring 208.7 x 78.7 x 55.6 in (530 x 200 x 141 cm), the five-door LF-FC is an extension of Lexus' L-finesse design philosophy with its so-called "aggressively elegant" look and long flowing lines along its profile.
Among the car's features are a large grille at front, L-shaped daytime running lights and taillights that have the same "floating theme" as those at the front. It sits on 21-in aluminum wheels with carbon fiber reinforced plastic rims.
The Concept envisions an all-wheel-drive setup, with a fuel-cell power system delivering power to the rear wheels as well as to in-wheel motors at the front. This approach is aimed at delivering precise torque distribution and improved handling and road stability.
Handling and stability should be improved further by the vehicle's optimal front and rear weight distribution, as a result of the fuel-cell stack placement at the rear of the vehicle, the power control unit at the front and T-formation configured hydrogen fuel tanks.
Inside, the LF-FC is designed to be convey a sense of openness, with a view to helping the driver to concentrate on the road without feeling constrained. The seats, doors and dashboard are finished with high-quality aniline leather, while passengers in the rear seats benefit from reclining functionality, and ample head- and knee-space.
For the driver, a human machine interface is controlled using hand gestures, eliminating the need to touch a panel or controls to adjust settings for such things as the audio system and ventilation. The LF-FC also features a traffic environment recognition, prediction and judgment system.
