The Smart Fortwo might be one of the smallest cars on the road, but fill it to the brim with audio equipment and it can still be one of the loudest. Working with audio equipment firm JBL, Smart has kitted out a one-of-a-kind "Forgigs" concept. It has ear-splitting maximum outputs of 5,720 W and 150 dB.

Smart says the motivation for creating the Forgigs was simply to find out what kind of a sound experience would be possible and suggests it could be used as a "concert hall on wheels" or as a mobile amplifier for street musicians. The carmaker says the finest and most powerful audio components have been used to create a sound system that comprises five amplifiers, 16 loudspeakers and two 30-cm (11.8-in) diameter subwoofers.

Three JBL GTO 804 EZ amps serve the tweeters and mid-range speakers, with the mid-range speakers integrated into the doors and the into the dashboard. There are also a pair of mid-range speakers/tweeters either side of the tailgate. Two JBL GTO 751 EZ amps, meanwhile, power the subwoofers, which are fitted in the luggage compartment.

A Mosconi digital signal processor is employed and is able to output via eight channels, and digital music files from iOS, Android and Windows devices can also be streamed over Bluetooth.

Smart says around 100 m (328 ft) of cable and 10 sq m (108 sq ft) of insulating material were used to install the equipment.

Sort of on the topic I hate how auto manufacturers make you get an expensive upgrade for a 10 speaker Bose system to upgrade audio packages when there is only about a $50 difference between a pair of crappy 6x9" and a pair of good ones.
There should be a special place in hell for people who work for car companies who decide to equip $30,000+ vehicles with a couple $25 pairs of speakers.
