High in northern Italy's rugged Dolomite mountain range, mountain lodge retreat firm Rifugio Col Gallina has installed a novel tiny cabin. Dubbed Starlight Room, it boasts few amenities, but this is mitigated by the promise of an unbeatable Alpine view.

Starlight Room is constructed mostly from wood and features a large glazed area at its front. It sits on skis to allow easy towing by snowmobile and access is gained via one door. The cosy interior is sparsely furnished, with an adjustable bed, lighting, a coat hanger and, well, not much else – not even a toilet – though perhaps a portable toilet of some kind could be stowed away within the bench storage area.

Should guests get bored of the view, a TV with DVD player and an MP3 player are installed. In addition, a portable heating system can be controlled by thermostat.

Starlight Room is available for booking but doesn't come cheap. One night costs €300 (about US$333), including a four-course meal. More information, including booking details, is available (in Italian) via the source link below.

A house on skis on a mountain: what could possibly go wrong?

All of these view-the-stars-from-inside-a-glass-box designs forget about one critical thing: condensation. If the dew on the exterior doesn't ruin the view, the condensed breath humidity on the interior will.
