Back in February, Electric GT Holdings Inc. confirmed that its Electric Production Car Series (EPCS) racing series had been sanctioned by the world motorsport governing body, the FIA. Now the first stripped down, race-ready Tesla P100DL has been delivered to a team in Barcelona, Spain – ahead of the race series debut in November.

The EPCS V2.3 Tesla P100DL finished in SPV Racing's testing livery took to the track yesterday at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with development drivers Emma Kimiläinen and Alvaro Fontes inside, before being presented to the media in the center of Barcelona.

"SPV Racing are really excited to receive our first race car and proud to be involved in the evolution of Motorsport," said team manager Lars Lindberg. "It's a great platform for developing and testing innovative new sustainable technology."

All EPCS drivers will get behind the wheel of an identical spec P100DL, which can make 778 bhp (585 kW) and 995 Nm of torque, sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standing start in 2.1 seconds and top out at up to 250 km/h (155 mph) in the straight. The race-ready Tesla features bespoke Pirelli tires, Alcon brakes, BCOMP renewable natural fiber composite panels, and has the latest OMP safety equipment.

A total of 20 international drivers will compete in races that will form part of weekend-long festivals of technology and innovation for sustainability aimed at celebrating a "new age of all-electric transportation," which are scheduled to take place in Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and Portugal.

There will be three race categories – one for e-karting, an eSports series (a digital version of the Series P100D is available for download for the Assetto Corsa simulated racing platform) and the EPCS proper. The latter will comprise a 20 minute practice session, a 60 minute qualifying heat, a 60 km (37 mi) day race and a 60 km dusk race.

And it's now been announced that the final round of the season will take place in Vallelunga, Italy, on October 27 - 28, 2019.

That is SOOO cool! Can't wait to see what the new roadster can do on a track.

There is a car I don't think I will ever get sick of looking at. Cars like the P100DL will secure Tesla's place in automotive history. To keep up with it off the line the auto industry has done things like the Dodge Demon that's an 840 HP purpose built car for 1/4 drag strips. It uses 100 octane race fuel and ships from the factory with drag radials. The Demon is the only production car that can lift the front wheels off the ground from the factory but that's what it has taken to dethrone the P100DL in a 1/4 mile and it's still close and that's comparing a 5-7 seat sedan to a vehicle that comes with only a drivers seat in the base configuration. Hopefully Tesla can work through their current struggles because it will be fun to watch the new Roadster crush cars like the Dodge Demon. On paper the roadster is at 1.9 sec 0-60 and and 8.8 sec in the 1/4 mile. That's .4 sec and ~1 sec faster than the Demon so I'd like to see them try to build a street legal ICE car to chase that down.
