As the tiny house scene continues to grow, we're seeing increasing numbers of large and luxurious builds. The latest example of this trend comes from Alabama Tiny Homes and its Freedom tiny house, which boasts some big house comforts in a small space, including a large bathroom and a walk-in closet.
The Freedom sits atop a 28 ft (8.5 m) triple-axle trailer – each rated to a weight of 5,500 lb (2,494 kg) – and comprises a total floorspace of 304 sq ft (28 sq m). Weight comes in at 14,000 lb (6,350 kg), and Alabama Tiny Homes says that you'd need a 3/4 ton truck to pull it.
Visitors enter into the center of the home, with the bathroom to the far-left and kitchen to the far-right. The lounge and (storage integrated) stairs leading to the sleeping loft are located in the middle of the home.
The lounge area includes a couch that pulls out into a double bed and a wall-mounted TV. The U-shaped kitchen looks decently-proportioned, with plenty of cabinets and counter top space, in addition to the usual amenities you'd expect, such as a four-burner propane-powered stove and oven, sink, fridge, etc. A neat pop-up table integrated into the stairs serves as a dining table.
The bathroom looks particularly spacious for a tiny house and includes a large shower cubicle and a walk-in closet – we've seen a few of these lately, but it's still a notable feature for a tiny house to have. Moving upstairs, the sleeping loft includes a double bed and skylight, which the firm says can provide a second exit in an emergency, such as a fire for example.
The home is clad in stained pine siding, while the insulation is closed cell spray foam. Both heating and cooling is handled by a mini-split heat pump.
The Freedom tiny house gets its electricity from a standard hookup and is plumbed for either a septic tank or sewer. Hot water comes from an on-demand propane hot water heater.
The Freedom tiny house recently sold for US$57,000, fully-furnished. Next up, Alabama Tiny Homes is working on a new tiny house which it describes as a particularly special build, due for completion in January, 2017
