​With the original Onak "origami" canoe, you could cycle to the canal or coastline with a trolley in tow, unpack and assemble at the water's edge and then throw in your gear and paddle away . The updated Onak 2.0 offers much the same experience, but comes with a few welcome improvements.​

Samsung’s long-rumored folding-display phone has finally become a reality – well, almost. During the keynote for the 2018 Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) today, the company demoed a prototype of what it calls the Infinity Flex Display, which can fold from smartphone- to tablet-sized.

Practical as camping lights are, most aren’t much to look at by themselves. Solight Design is trying to change that with the Qwnn, an origami-inspired lantern that folds flat, charges via solar power and can also act as a power bank.

Bike helmets can look dorky and are often too bulky to stash in a bag. The Park & Diamond is a new helmet designed to solve both of those problems, resembling a baseball cap when it’s on your head and collapsing down to the size of a water bottle when it’s not.

Bike trailers are super-handy if you need to haul cargo, but they can become a burden the minute you empty that cargo. German start-up Trenux aims to solve this disparity, offering a lightweight, go-everywhere bike trailer that folds up onto the back of the bike when not in use.

​Lugging big loads up and down stairs isn’t anybody’s idea of a good time, although stair-climbing trolleys can certainly make it a less painful experience. The UpCart City is built specifically to help urban folks with such tasks, taking a narrower form for tight stairwells.

​California's Oru Kayak has found great success with its origami-inspired approach to boatbuilding. The refreshed Coast XT is its flagship model for 2018, and continues the company's evolution by incorporating a few new bells and whistles that promise faster setup and better stability. ​

Is this the future of smartphones? So far the biggest innovations we've seen in mobile this year have been bigger screens and smaller bezels, but Chinese manufacturer ZTE has raised the bar with its Axon M, the first foldable handset with a dual display, suggesting a host of potential uses.

After the Hardtop One roof tent and Room in Room bed tent, iKamper is back with yet another innovation in tents. Like the Hardtop One, the new Skycamp is an expandable hard-shell rooftop tent. Its unique design allows it to set up in under 60 seconds, dropping into place to sleep a family of four.

Tern makes some of the more interesting compact folding bikes on the market. Now it's working with a heavy-hitting partner on the electric drive side, Bosch, to present the Vektron, a compact folding bike with 250 watts of electric assist.

Usually portable boats rely on either folding or inflatable hardware to compact down to carry case size, but some use a combination of both. The K-Pak has a blend of folding skeleton, inflatable inserts and fabric outer skin to travel to the water on your back, set up in minutes and get paddling.
