There's plenty of gear to spend your rupees on in Hyrule, but it can be hard to find the rupees you need, particularly early on in the game. Here's our guide to making cash quickly.

  • Ore mining
  • Hunting
  • Cooking
  • Snowball bowling
  • Super gut check

Ore mining

Ore mining isn't the quickest or most enjoyable way to get rupees - but it's likely your best bet earlier in the game, before you've got the armor you need to head out into the Tundra.

Ore deposits can be found all over mountainous areas of Hyrule, but you'll want to get hold of the right tools before you head out.

You can generally find either an axe or a sledgehammer lying around one of the stables, but if you're stuck, here's a good place to go.

In the southern area of Akkala (north-east of Mount Ploymus, which is next to Zora's Domain), there is an area called Ulria Grotto. There are two Iron Sledgehammers on the ground here, next to four ore deposits – this should help get you started.

Once you've got a lot of jewels, head to Goron City and find a Gerudo named Ramella. She'll pay you more for jewels than you can get from a store - if you've got 10 of them.

Hunting

You'll need Snowquill armor, a good bow (to ensure you can bring them down in one shot), and all the arrows you can get your hands on. You can buy the Snowquill armor at Rito Village – the full set will cost you 2150 rupees.

A guy named Trott at the Outskirt Stables will give you 100 rupees for a piece of Raw Gourmet Meat – to a limit of three per day – but the quickest and easiest thing to do is just cook it up and sell it

A Meat Skewer made from 5 pieces of Raw Prime Meat can be sold for 210 rupees, and one made from 5 pieces of Raw Gourmet Meat is worth 490 rupees.

Meat Skewers can make you hundreds of rupees

The easiest way we've found to get Raw Prime Meat and Raw Gourmet Meat is heading to the Tabantha Tundra (where you can also find white-maned Lynels). The Tundra is teeming with wildlife, namely the Great-Horned Rhinoceros and the Tabantha Moose – each of which can net you up to three pieces of meat. Whether it's Prime or Gourmet is pure luck

Cooking

If you're like us, you collected plenty of apples at the start of the game. Cooking five apples gives you a Simmered Fruit dish which you can sell for 50 rupees. This isn't a lot, but can really help earlier on in the game.

Snowball bowling

Head to Pondo's Lodge, just north-east of the Hebra Tower in the Tabantha region.

A spare will get you 100 rupees and a strike will get you 300 rupees.

Super gut check

Head to Gorei Torr Shrine, north of Goron City.

Gorae Torr Shrine

You'll have to complete the Gut Check Challenge, which costs 20 rupees to enter. Just collect 100 rupees on your way up the cliff. This unlocks the Super Gut Check, which costs 100 rupees.

Super Gut Check Challenge

This time you'll need to collect 300 rupees on your way up. But be warned – you'll want to have maxed out your stamina and found all the climbing gear before you tackle this.
