March 25, 2008 Alienware’s new Area-51 desktop PC now offers unprecedented multitasking capabilities thanks to an Intel QX9770 Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core processor featuring four cores churning out clock speeds of 3.2GHz. With Intel building the QX9770 around 45nm microarchitecture and its dynamic thermal management solutions the Area-51 has the grunt to take next-generation games, 3D and video rendering or day-to-day productivity applications in its stride. A 1600MHz Front Side Bus allows for faster read/write speeds between the processor and memory and any PCI-Express devices while the new NVIDIA nForce 790i motherboard, with support for both DDR3 memory and PCI-E 2.0, ensure the Area-51 desktop speeds keep power users happy.

Alienware’s High-Performance Liquid Cooling allows for lower system temperatures and increased CPU benchmarks and the tool-free case and chassis is designed for easy computer maintenance and upgradability. Inside Alienware bundles the wires and cables of its desktop computers and secures them away from view. Not only does this make the system look neater, it also has the added advantage of bringing system temperatures down as air flow within the main chamber isn’t clogged by nests of wires. It also makes working under the hood to replace components much easier.

Of course it wouldn’t be an Alienware computer if it didn’t have that distinctive Alienware look and the Area- 51 doesn't disappoint in that department. It features the Alienware AlienFX lighting system with programmable fixtures across multiple dedicated zones which control color, effect and transitions so different themes can be set to add a dose of personality to the computer. Using color changes or visual notifications, the AlienFX can be set to react to system events such as incoming e-mail or separate configurations can be set for individual program launches. The Area-51 is also highly customizable where it counts with options including a 4x Dual Layer Blu-ray Burner (BD-RE, DVD±RW, CD-RW), Sound Blaster X-Fi High Definition Surround Sound Audio and Ageia PhysX Physics Processing Unit.

Prices for the Area-51 start at USD$2,099.
