The 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off at the end of the month and one of the vehicles on our "must-see" list is the Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) Mono. Making its public debut at the event, the BAC Mono is a single-seat, road-legal (in Europe), high-performance sports car that looks to just have the edge on its KTM X-Bow and Ariel Atom trackday rivals with the ability to go from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.8 seconds on the way to a top speed of 170 mph (273.6 km/h).

Constructed using carbon fiber composite around a steel safety shell, the BAC Mono weighs in at 540 kg (1,190 lb). It is powered by a longitudinally mounted 2.3 liter, four-cylinder Cosworth engine delivering 280 bhp that is coupled to a Hewland F-3 spec 6-speed sequential gearbox.

The fully-adjustable pushrod suspension features damping elements from SACHS Racing, while AP Racing provides the 295mm ventilated disc brakes. Tire manufacturer Kumho has also developed a special rubber compound designed specifically to suit the Mono's low weight and optimized pushrod suspension.

The BAC Mono measures 3.9m long x 1.8m wide x 1.1m high (12.9 x 5.9 x 3.6 ft) with a ground clearance of 100mm (3.9 in) at the front and 110m (4.3 in) at the rear.

Priced at GBP67,000 (approx. US$109,000 at time of publication) BAC only plans to build 35 Monos with many having already been snapped up. We're betting a few more will be wanting to stake their claim on the remaining vehicles when they get a look at the Mono from June 30 to July 3, 2011 in the grounds of Goodwood House, West Sussex, England.

It\'s amazing that they can produce and sell them for only 109k USD. For comparison, a limited production made in the USA with Rotax engine Buell 1190cc motorcycle (super bike) is 45k USD. The BAC car is a relative bargain.
