As you wander around the audio section of a consumer electronics store, you'll likely encounter a whole bunch of speaker docks ready and waiting to play music from your digital music player. If your player of choice isn't an iDevice, however, you may find it something of a challenge to dock your player in the cradle on most of these systems. Grace Digital began its campaign to support non-Apple-family devices with a speaker dock specifically designed for Amazon's Kindle Fire called the MatchStick, and has now given Samsung mobile device owners some amplification love with the launch of the gdock.
The 13 x 4.3 x 3.75-inch (330.2 x 109.22 x 95.25-mm) gdock can simultaneously play and charge a docked Galaxy S2/S3 or Note/Note II, and comes supplied with interchangeable cradles to ensure the perfect fit for your Samsung device. The cradle can also be rotated for horizontal or vertical viewing angles. Audio from the docked device is routed through a 16W Class-D amplifier before being pumped out via two 3-inch full-range stereo speakers, with a frequency response of 60 Hz to 18 kHz ±3dB and a signal-to-noise ratio of 89 dB.
Control buttons are situated on the top of the speaker dock, although an infrared remote is included, and an AUX-in connection to the rear allows the use of alternative audio devices. There's an optional 7.4V/2200mAh Li-ion battery pack for portability, too, boasting six hours of playback between charges (the gdock will only charge docked devices when plugged into a wall power outlet).
