It's not just the big marques and cities trying to make autonomous cars happen. Delphi and Mobileye have teamed up to bring a ready-to-run autonomous solution to market by 2019, with a demonstration set to take place at CES in Las Vegas next year.

Last year, Delphi used its own technologies to "drive" a car autonomously from San Francisco to New York. The next stage of that tech is what the company calls "vehicle-to-everything" (V2E). It allows vehicles to "communicate" with streets, signs, traffic lights, other cars and even pedestrians.

British-based auto-firm Delphi has completed a journey from San Francisco to New York with its self-driving car. The trip, announced in March, covered nearly 3,400 miles (5,500 km) and took nine days. Delphi says it is the first US coast-to-coast trip ever taken by an automated vehicle.
