Scientists have succeeded in creating artificial mother of pearl.

The second largest pearl ever found is to go to auction. Weighing 2.25 kg (5 lb), the six inch diameter pearl bears an uncanny resemblance to a human brain and will sell with the lower half of the giant Tridacna Gigas clam in which it formed.
