If you were a flowering plant, wouldn't you want your pollen to be received by a plant of your own kind? According to a new study, at least one plant may ensure that happens, by blasting "rival" pollen off of pollinating animals' bodies.

Citizen scientists have been key to the discovery of two new species of hallucinogenic fungi, joining the ranks of 140 known types of these psychoactive mushrooms. One even has longstanding roots in traditional healing medicine in mountainous Lesotho.

Marine biologists currently have to manually compare fin photos in order to see which great white shark is which. Wouldn't it be easier if there was fin-pattern-matching software, like there is for fingerprints? Well, it has been attempted before, and now there's a new effort underway.​
