As emissions regulations tighten and congestion gets worse, manufacturers are being forced to delve deep into their engineering kitbag for clever ways to save fuel. The latest brand to unveil a smart new eco-friendly engine is Toyota, which has released a new 1.5-liter for the Yaris.

Toyota will begin offering its smallest car, the Yaris, in hybrid form from mi-year, and has developed a much smaller version of its Hybrid Synergy Drive system which delivers combined power of 99 bhp

Toyota is gearing up for a worldwide onslaught of hybrid vehicles in 2012.
