The doors have opened at the 54th Salone Internazionale Del Mobile. The epic event is showcasing a huge collection of the latest home-furnishing designs from Italy and around the globe, with over 2,000 exhibitors filling the 204,850 sq m (2.2 million sq ft) of the Rho Milan Fairgrounds in Italy. Along with some of the 300,000 visitors expected at the show, we've begun making our way through this maze in search of the most innovative and creative designs.
Running alongside the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the SaloneSatellite is celebrating its 18th edition. Showcasing the work of 700 emerging young designers under the age of 35, the theme of this year's exhibition is "Pianeta vita" (Life planet). The show is also accompanied by Euroluce and Workplace3.0/SaloneUfficio, which focuses on design and technology for organizing workspaces.
And if that isn't overwhelming enough, the FuoriSalone program sees hundreds more independent designers and architects inhabit local shops, buildings and public spaces in and around central Milan, showcasing an array of creative and innovative designs with aspirations to launch their work into commercial production.
Salone Internazionale Del Mobile will run until April 19. Stay tuned for more details on some of the fascinating new designs we'll be encountering at the above mentioned shows, and keep a look out for our extensive gallery of all the highlights from the Milan Fairgrounds this week. In the meantime, here's a small taste of what's in store.
