Some of us wake up in the morning and have a cup of coffee just to get the caffeine. For others, drinking coffee is an experience, and it's at those people that the new Arist brewer is aimed. It connects to a user's smartphone and allows them to make the same kinds of recipes one would typically get from a trained barista, but it's done right in the home.

This system is proposed to offer coffee lovers the fine control they would get by doing everything manually, but without all the work. Instead, users will be able to control every detail of their brew from the accompanying smartphone app. Everything from the way to beans are ground to the amount of water pressure can be adjusted. The app also features thousands of recipes that users can brew quickly, provided they have the proper ingredients on hand. If not, the app will offer users the ability to order what they need for next time.

The app can also offer recommendations based on the preferences of the user. With the prevalence of smart products that learn from our desires, it makes sense to see a premium coffee machine that does just that.

As you'd expect, the machine can brew all of the drinks you'd hope to find at a premium coffee house, so whether an individual user is looking for an espresso or cappuccino, they'll be able to make it here. But remember, if you're the kind of user who just brews a cup and throws some cream and sugar in it (like myself) this machine is going to be overkill for your needs.

As for the actual hardware itself, users will find a coffee bean container, a syrup capsule container, and a one-liter milk chamber. The milk container is cooled, so it will be able to keep the milk stored over a long period of time.

Arist also features a porcelain-blade grinder that should allow users to finely adjust the grind to suit the needs of the particular drink they are making.

One of the cooler feature of Arist is its NFC capabilities. With this, users can use an NFC tag on a cup, and whenever that cup is placed on the machine, a certain drink is brewed automatically. For those tough mornings when thinking about what to drink is out of the question, this could become a favorite feature.

Arist, which is also the name of the company, is seeking funding on Kickstarter to bring its high-end coffee maker to market. It has already surpassed its US$120,000 goal with just under a month left in its funding period. Backers interested in pre-ordering an Arist can do so for a minimum pledge of $299, with an expected delivery date of June 2015.

and what about us that dont like our coffee with milk and syrup? Can it make a "french press" fresh cup of coffee every morning? As someone who roasts and grind their own coffee, i like having control over every aspect. What can this do other than save me time? I looks very cool and I would love to bring fresh coffee to work every morning but its a hassle to get everything done in time for work since i love to sleep in.

"Smartphone app" is sleight-of-hand shorthand for "Does our machine keep a constant brewing temperature? Look, there goes Elvis!"
Oh, the landfills these will fill...
