Canon's next generation of all-in-one photo printers - the PIXMA MP480 and PIXMA MP190 - which incorporate printing, scanning and copying functionality and include features like a new Auto Scan Mode, which detects the type of document being scanned – Photo, Post Card, Business Card, Magazine, Newspaper, Document – and automatically crops and saves files to PDF or JPEG format based on image type.
Both the MP480 and MP190 utilize Canon's two-cartridge, four-color FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology with a minimum two-picoliter droplet size and up to 4800 x 1200 dpi color resolution. Additionally, Canon's ChromaLife 100 and 100+ dye ink systems coupled with Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II (PP-201) are designed to produce long-lasting lab-quality prints with enhanced fade resistance, said to be for up to 300 years. Canon has also announced details of its new Photo Album 3"x 3" Pocket Size for printing a small pocket-sized album holding 12 different photos, as well as a custom wraparound photo hardcover.
The PIXMA MP480 is equipped with a 1.8-inch TFT color LCD display and easily navigated control panel, and includes both Auto Photo Fix and Auto Scan Mode. The Auto Photo Fix, with Easy-PhotoPrint EX software, automatically detects the type of photo being printed – portrait or scenery – and helps to correct red eye, facial tones, brightness, contrast and color saturation to provide better looking photo output without manual photo editing. The MP480 is capable of text print speeds of up to 20 pages-per-minute (ppm) in black and up to 16 ppm in color, and delivers 4 x 6 inch borderless lab-quality prints in approximately 45secs. The MP480 Photo All-In-One will also feature an optional Bluetooth wireless connection for sending images to the printer. The MP480 is expected to retail for around USD$99.99, with the BU-30 Bluetooth adapter costing an extra $49.99.
With an estimated retail price of just $69.99, the MP190 is the more budget conscious option and features a maximum of 4800 x 1200 dpi color resolution, and a minimum two-picoliter droplet size. Text printing speeds are up to 19 ppm for black and up to 15 ppm for color. The printer also delivers 4 x 6 inch borderless photo quality prints in approximately 70secs. Additional features include the Advanced Z-Lid expansion top allowing users to place bulkier books or small 3-D objects for scanning on the platen glass and holds them down for a more clear copy or scan.
