The Fiat 500 dynasty is expanding once more. Recent additions include the Abarth and Cabrio versions, and now the 500L (the L stands for Large) is something completely different again.

The 500L is a compact five-seat people carrier, combining the passenger space of an MPV with the feel of a small SUV on the road and the restrained dimensions and efficiency of a B segment car.

The 500L will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March and will hit European markets in late 2012, with a choice of two petrol engines and the 1.3 liter MultiJet II turbodiesel engine.

The 500L will be produced in Kragujevac, Serbia.

This is a much better itteration of the Fiat 500 than the coupe that resembles the VW Beatle.

I strongly suspect this is not Fiat 500-based, but Fiat Sedici / Suzuki SX4 based. Shape is remarkably similar - if they offer 4WD with it that\'ll give the game away. Retro-badge-engineering at it\'s best!

I think this will help Fiat sales since it seems to be more roomy and looks really nice.

They cannot compete against Honda, Toyota in this segment on reliability and name recognition as they don\'t have it. The only thing they have is rarity as their won\'t be many of these on the road. They should instead build and market something that fills a niche that competitors don\'t fill.

The irony is that hardly anyone in Serbia can afford this small car. It costs around US$ 20.000 or €15.000.
