Isuzu has teamed up with Arctic Trucks to develop its most extreme D-Max pickup truck ever. Arctic has plenty of experience fortifying trucks for the world's toughest terrains and climates, and it focuses that experience toward building the D-Max up with upgraded suspension, tires and more. This D-Max wants to get dirty.

If you're going to build an extreme off-road version of your pickup truck ever, you might as well reach out to the shop that designs trucks specifically for the world's most demanding environments. Iceland-based Arctic Trucks specializes in building extreme versions of 4WD vehicles for the likes of the poles, deserts, glaciers, mountains and more. Its work includes a Toyota Tacoma that set a world record overlanding its way to the South Pole.

The Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 becomes the first Arctic Trucks pickup in the UK available for order directly through a manufacturer's dealer network. Isuzu and Arctic have kept the D-Max's high-tensile-strength steel ladder frame, 161-hp/292 lb-ft 2.5-liter twin-turbo diesel engine, six-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmissions, and dial-selected 4WD system with low ratio.

From there, the AT35 gets enhanced with an upgraded suspension with Fox Performance Series shocks and 35-in Nokian Rotiiva AT tires wrapped around 17 x 10-in wheels. Those upgrades jack ride height by 5 in (125 mm), improving upon the approach, departure and break-over angles. Extended fender flares help rein those big tires in and add to the muscular, rock-hungry look.

The options list helps buyers enhance the off-road warrior nature of their D-Max AT35 with choices like skid plates, an Arctic Trucks Truxedo cargo system, an Arctic Trucks Sports Bar, an LED work light and an ARB tire inflator.

The D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 Extended-cab starts at £30,995 (approx. US$45,000), while the Double-cab bases in at £33,495. The latter can be ordered with optional 6.1-in touchscreen infotainment system and Pioneer audio.

No information on the suspension and drivetrain which is what separates vehicles like the Hummer and Mercedes Unimog or the Russian Kamaz trucks, the latter which have dominated the Dakar Rally.
