Leatherman lists the Wave as its most popular multitool, but even the most adored of implements still have room for improvement. The updated Wave+ features all the versatility of the original but with redesigned pliers and sheath for better protection when not in use.
The stainless steel Wave+ boasts 18 tools in all, including knives, scissors, a ruler, can opener, screwdrivers, wood and metal files, and a saw. Some of these tools, like the knife, can be accessed from the outside with the tool closed, while others require it to be snapped open before being called into use.
One of those is the new set of pliers, which work as needle nose and regular pliers but now also feature integrated wire cutters. These are made to cut through regular and light gauge wire along with harder electrical wires, and can also be replaced as the owner sees fit.
The Wave+ also comes packed in a new sheath made from nylon webbing and elastic, which sees a Velcro seal replaced with a metal snap mechanism that should last longer and better secure the tool.
The Wave+ measures 10 cm (4 in) when closed and has a blade length of 2.9 in (7.37 cm), with a weight of 8.5 oz (240 g). Available in both stainless steel and black, it is priced at US$100.
