With powerful GPUs able to squeeze into notebook form factors, big bulky towers are no longer the only option for PC gamers. But a laptop isn't everyone's cup of tea, so at Gamescom 2016 Lenovo has provided gamers a couple of different options. The IdeaCentre Y710 Cube targets the portable desktop middle ground, while the IdeaCentre AIO Y910 crams the same specs into an all-in-one form factor.

The VR-ready heart of the Cube is the GeForce GTX 1080, which we've found to be pretty great at dealing with the graphical grunt required for virtual worlds, although you can stick a 1070 in there for a nice sweet spot between performance and price. That's backed up by a sixth-gen Intel Core i7 processor, up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, and a HDD up to 2 TB hard drive, or a 256 GB SSD, if speed's more your jam.

Windows 10 Home drives the Cube, and optional extras on the table include Killer Doubleshot Pro Wi-Fi, integrated Dolby Audio and a built-in receiver for up to eight wireless Xbox One controllers, saving the purchase of an external dongle (or eight). The YSeries mechanical keyboard and precision mouse can also be bundled in.

The Cube moniker comes from the shell everything is packed into. The angular exterior features a carry handle, with the whole package weighing in at 7.4 kg (16.3 lb) so it can be carted between the desk and the couch, or to a friend's place for the LAN partiers. It's not as portable as a laptop, of course, but should be a nice middle ground.

The IdeaCentre AIO Y910 offers the exact same specs, with the added option to substitute Nvidia's GT 10 series GPU for an AMD Radeon RX 460. The portability of the Cube is swapped out for a space-saving all-in-one design, packing the powerful innards into a borderless, 27-in 2K monitor with a 144 Hz refresh and 5 ms response time.

Depending on your choices, the IdeaCentre Y710 Cube starts at €899 in Europe from later this month, and will be available in the US from US$1,299 in September. The AIO Y910 will also be available in September, with the base model starting at €1,799 in Europe and $1,799 in the US.
