Cannon Security Products' has taken a stealthy new approach to securing valuables in the home with the RadioVault, a fingerprint activated safe that's hidden inside a fully functional iPod dock.
The safe is designed to look like the speakers of the dock, which would prevent would-be thieves from even knowing a safe is there. The device uses a fingerprint scanner that remembers up to 120 different users to unlock the safe. It also includes a backup key, just in case.
The drawer itself is large enough to fit items like a wallet, jewellery and or other moderately small items. It's 9.5 inches long, 6.75 inches wide, and 1.75 inches deep (24.1 x 17.1 x 4.4 cm).
Of course, the obvious flaw of this, and any other small safe, is that it might be possible for a thief to steal the RadioVault itself. Whether they can then break into the steel-reinforced casing is another issue, but some way of bolting it down might be recommended.
The iPod dock is not just for show, as it's capable of charging and playing the devices like any other dock. It also comes with an auxiliary cable, so it can handle playing almost any smartphone, tablet, or MP3 player. It additionally includes an FM radio, so if MP3 players aren't your thing, you can enjoy some traditional radio as well.
Dual alarm clocks are also included, so you can use it to wake up in the morning to your MP3 player of choice, or to a standard alarm ring if you prefer a more shocking method of waking up.
The RadioVault is available via the company website for US$349.
