Retro greasers – it's time to break out your Presley pout and your hot-rodded laptop soundcard for some songs from yesteryear. Blue Microphones wasn't the only manufacturer to reveal a stylish new USB microphone at this year's CES, as the Meteor Mic from Samson Technologies also made a special appearance. Featuring the company's largest condenser mic capsule offering CD-quality recording resolution, the utterly gorgeous microphone also sports snazzy fold-up legs that can be adjusted to suit most recording situations.
Known for its excellent Zoom series of handy recorders, Samson Technologies' latest addition to its arsenal is the Meteor Mic. Similar in looks to the iconic Shure 55 microphone, the chrome-plated, USB audio recording solution features a large 25mm diaphragm condenser microphone capsule featuring a cardioid pickup pattern that's said to offer a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz and 16-bit, 44.1/48kHz recording resolution.
In addition to home recording applications, the Meteor Mic will work with most digital audio workstation software and can also be used for voice recognition software such as Dragon and VOIP packages like Skype. There's a 3.5mm headphone jack with volume control for real-time audio monitoring, and microphone mute for instant privacy. Its fold-back leg design is said to allow for greater positioning freedom, with the rubber feet adding stability, and there's a mic stand adapter on the bottom for mounting on a boom or a desktop stand.
The Meteor Mic is due for general release on April 15, 2011 for US$99.
I called the company and they were no help. They said it doesn\'t need drivers. Of course it does!
Very dissapointed.
