Sony announced a new addition to it RX camera line at IFA 2017 in Berlin earlier today. The 15 MP RX0 sports a wide-angle Zeiss lens, rugged compact body and sits somewhere between an actioncam and a tough compact, with Sony reckoning that this is the shape of cameras to come.

Sony’s latest action cameras are aimed at cutting the wobbles from your extreme footage with new image stabilization technology. The 4K-shooting X3000 and the Full HD AS300 each use Sony’s Balanced Optical SteadyShot, which moves the camera's lens and sensor together to compensate for camera shake.​

The Panasonic HC-X1 is a 4K camcorder for professional videographers who don’t want to keep using a wide conversion lens. The handheld shooter features an extremely wide 24mm 20x optical zoom lens.

The JVC Everio GZ-R450 and GZ-R320 are a pair of new rugged camcorders which are dust-proof, water-proof, drop-proof and freeze-proof. The duo also feature 40x optical zoom lenses and 3-inch touchscreens.

The TomTom Bandit is a new sensor-packed action camera which aims to make editing and sharing action videos easier thanks to a built-in media server, automatic tagging of action-packed moments, and a "shake to edit" function.

The Garmin Virb X and XE are a pair of action cameras which use built-in and external sensors to track action taking place during a recording. This data can then be displayed in the resulting footage to show things like exactly how fast you were hurtling down that mountain on your bike.

The HX-A1 is the latest action camera from Panasonic. The diminutive but tough HD camera is designed for shooting point-of-view footage and is waterproof to 1.5 m (5 ft) without the need for an external housing.

Zoom North America has revealed a new addition to its HD videocam range at this year's NAMM Show in California. As well as being capable of recording video at higher-than-HD resolution, the Q8 also boasts the modular microphone capsule system first seen in the H6 audio recorder.

A couple of years ago, we first heard about the SoloShot. It's a robotic device that sits between a video camera and a tripod, automatically panning the camera to keep the subject centered in the shot. The SoloShot2 takes things a step further, most notably by also tilting the camera.

Panasonic has announced the HC-X1000, the first camcorder capable of recording 4K ultra HD video at 60 frames per second onto an SD card. Fitted with a range of field-ready equipment, it's intended as a bridging camera for 1080p shooters looking to take the step into 4K production.
