British company Equipmake has used 3D printing to radically boost power-to-weight figures for its electric motors. The new Ampere motor weighs less than 10 kg (22 lb) and makes a whopping 220 kW (295 hp) while spinning at up to 30,000 rpm.

British company Equipmake, best known for designing Formula 1 KERS systems for Williams, has turned its hand to electric motors and blasted out of the gate with a spoked motor design it claims is lighter, more powerful, easier to cool and cheaper to manufacture than standard electric motors.
