Toyota GT86

When it created the GT86, Toyota hoped it would act as a spiritual successor to the AE86 Corolla GT. This connection to a legendary past has now been made even stronger by a team within Toyota UK, which has channeled the AE86 from Japanese manga series Initial D to create a monochrome GT86 concept.

Beside a mid-life redesign of the Toyota GT86 in New York, very little has changed since the ToyoBaru twins launched in 2012. At least very little had changed, until Toyota whipped the covers off the GT86 Shooting Brake concept.

Along with a name change for US buyers, Toyota has addressed criticism of its GT 86 with a mild update to the formula which includes a small power and torque bump, along with some revisions to the car's styling.

The new Toyota GT86 sports car scored a major coup on the weekend when it won two separate classes at 24 Hours Nürburgring race - a huge validation of the handling and horsepower of the new machine on the most demanding racetrack in the world.
