To handle the number-crunching that Big Data will need in the future, hard drive read and write speeds need to keep up with capacity gains. To that end, Seagate has now unveiled Multi Actuator technology, which will allow two sets of data to be written or read from the same drive at the same time.

Seagate is doing its best to sate people's craving for gigabytes on the go by announcing the world's highest capacity 2.5-inch hard drive. Measuring 7 mm thick and packing two 1 TB platters, the new HDD offers a capacity of 2 TB.

We first caught wind of HGST's high capacity hard drives in 2012, when it claimed it could boost storage capacities by 40 percent by replacing regular air inside the enclosure with helium. The company has stayed the course, now releasing the world's first 10 TB hard drive.
